Stripey Skippy Sweatshirt

Oh look!  It’s a weather appropriate outfit 😉  I think maybe I’ve finally blogged the last of my summer makes.  Toni of Make It Perfect sent me her Skippy Dress pattern to try out, and I made this sweatshirt…DSC_0404I actually made the dress first, but the proportions were off on me- I have a very short waist and the waistband was down around my bum…I think next time I would perhaps go down a size and raise the waistband by a couple inches.  I am still dreaming of a cozy sweatshirt dress for winter!  But for this version I just removed the skirt and added a waistband to make it a sweatshirt instead.DSC_0411Pocket!  Love having the pocket to keep my hands warm.  And to hide my winter time squishy belly 🙂  I offset the stripes on the pocket on purpose, hopefully it looks cool and not like I just goofed it up, ha.  The fabric is a really nice french terry that I got on Etsy a long time ago.  It’s been lurking in my stash because I wasn’t sure what to do with it….maybe I’ve been watching too much Orange is the New Black because the orange stripe reminds me of their jail jumpsuits.DSC_0402Other changes to the pattern- I removed the gathers from the sleeve cap- I’m not that girly 😉  And chose my own length on the sleeves.  The “3/4 length” option in the pattern is more like elbow length.  I taped the pocket down with wonder tape before sewing, I love that stuff!  No shifting around and struggling to keep the pocket in place while sewing. I also bound the neckline to mimic the binding on the pocket.DSC_0396All in all I think it’s a fun pattern, I still want a dress made up in stripes just like Kirsty’s.  And there is a “Joey” version for your littles also, I am still planning to make up a couple of these for my girls 🙂
