Silk Floral Papercut Rigel Bomber

Hey guys!  I made this jacket last January during Rigel Bomber January, and I am just now getting around to blogging it (such a slacker!)  I used a really nice cotton/silk stretch twill that I bought here locally- a bit outside of my usual style with the bright floral!  I blame Pinterest for this one…
DSC_0155 It was a fun and satisfying make as far as I can remember- I had the standard complaint with this pattern that it doesn’t include a lining…I suppose you could get away with it being unlined but the insides are pretty crazy looking with the welt pockets.  I lined it with a stretch silk charmeuse which feels really luxurious!  I used a couple tutorials to draft and sew my lining- this one from Kat is really good, and Katy has a really helpful version as well.DSC_0194 I made the smallest size (XXS) and the only change I made other than the lining was to add some length to the sleeves.  The ribbing I used came from Joann and is actually a really nice quality cotton/spandex ribbing.  I ended up going back and hoarding some more in this color and black also, because good ribbing can be hard to find!DSC_0167 Since I was going all fancy-pants with the silk I decided to go all out and order a Riri zipper- I got mine from Pacific Trimming and had them cut it to the length I needed for the pattern.DSC_0160 DSC_0162Here’s a look at the welt pockets- I find these pretty satisfying to make.  It’s definitely a test of accuracy to get them just right!DSC_0196 This lining feels awesome, like butter!!DSC_0156I struggled a bit with styling this jacket initially- florals aren’t really my style, and the silk feels a bit fancy to wear to school pick up and other random errands… which is probably why I waited so long to blog it.  I found myself wearing it a lot this Fall though- I’ve worn it around town, to lunch dates, wherever.  I try to be really conscious of making things I actually wear, so I am happy to get this one into a more regular rotation 🙂
