Pendleton Retro Rucksack Bag

Hello!  Here’s another project that I made last winter…a Pendleton wool/waxed canvas Retro Rucksack (pattern by Radiant Home Studio).  I have literally used this bag every single day since I made it!DSC_0103I think what really makes this design awesome for me is that you can wear it as a shoulder bag or a backpack- so handy!!  DSC_0152 I changed up the pattern a bit because of the thickness of the wool…I took 4″ off the top and made the zipper exposed.  The original design has a recessed top/zipper but it was just too bulky with the wool.  I also considered a roll top, but ultimately liked the way the zipper looked and wanted it to show.  I still want to make a roll top version though, next time!DSC_0156Sourcing all of the matching hardware can be difficult!  This hardware came from an Etsy shop that I can’t remember the name of and wouldn’t recommend anyway because the spring hooks in the front both broke after a couple of weeks.  I have since replaced them and all is well- I wish I had some good recommendations for you!  DSC_0205 I was playing around with a leather stamping kit and made this little tag to sew on the back…DSC_0201 I used this cool quilting cotton for the lining, I like how the triangles mimic the Pendleton print on the outside.DSC_0192 As always the Pendleton wool was a dream to work with- I can’t get enough of it!  I have a little stash of a few favorite prints just waiting to be made into bags 🙂DSC_0155The pattern has recently been updated with more clear instructions and added illustrations- I had a look at the new version and it is looking great!DSC_0106
