Liesl + Co. Weekend Getaway Blouse in Striped Voile

Well it’s a little later than I promised, but here’s my Weekend Getaway blouse, another of the new patterns released by Liesl + Co. last week.  I had it done except for hemming 4 or 5 days ago, but just put off finishing until last night…does anyone else get really bored with hemming?  I distracted myself with more work on my new sewing room- it’s all finished except for one last detail that I need the hubs to help me with, I can’t wait to show it to you all here!  I am very excited to have a nice space for sewing 🙂  Anyway, here’s the blouse!DSC_0018The pattern can be made as a blouse or dress, and features kimono sleeves (meaning no sleeves to set-in) and no closures, making it very easy to sew. The blouse is designed with short sleeves. The dress includes cuffed, 3/4-length sleeves and tabbed pockets. The front facing is a fun detail and lets you play around with stripes as I did here, or add a contrasting fabric for a more striking effect.  I added a little bit of a high/low shirttail hem on mine, just because 🙂DSC_0023DSC_0033DSC_0065I cut my front facings on the bias to get this cool chevron effect, but to be honest I wanted them to be pointing down instead of up…just didn’t think it through when cutting.  It didn’t bother me enough to redo them.  And these stripes are tiny so I didn’t even try to match them up, but they ended up matching anyway, yay!!  The fabric I used is a organic cotton voile, found here…when this fabric came in the mail I fell in love, it is so soft and buttery, yum!  However, after wearing this shirt for half a day it was a wrinkly mess!  So bummed…I can’t really see it getting much wear just because of that.  But the pattern is great and definitely worth making up in a more wearable fabric.  Check out the insides, so neat with french seams and all-DSC_0012 (1)I have just a bit of Kid’s Clothes Week sewing to get to, and then it is time to sew some jeans, seriously!  I have been talking about it and planning and gathering supplies for months now, and I just need to do it already.  And I have a finished dress that just needs to be photographed, so that should show up here soon…it has wolves on it, for real.  Wolves are the new black?  Probably not, but I love it 🙂

  • oh it’s so pretty on you and voile is an awesome idea for it. too bad about the wrinkling though, that’s the drawback i guess. :/

  • Its solo pretty on you and the fit is perfect!

    • solo? I meant so pretty on you!

  • Lovely top! Yes, the wrinkling would bother me too… The shape of the neckline and bottom are great though! Your sewing looks impeccable as well!

  • cute blouse! bummer about the wrinkling… but hey, it’s fall so at least you can layer with a sweater!

  • Lovely blouse, I love the effect of the stripes on the facing and so neat on the inside!

  • Very cute! I love that neckline, it looks so intricate, just by the way it falls.

  • Bummer that the fabric was a bust — I wouldn’t wear a blouse that wrinkles so much either. I really like the high-low hem. Might have to add that when I finally get around to making one!

  • Really pretty and really well made.
