Halloween Dress-Up, AKA “Wolf Lady”

Sooooooooo….I didn’t wear a costume for Halloween this year, but I did have a new dress to wear that I thought looked appropriate for the festivities.  My kids called me “wolf lady” all day, and said that I was “spooky and scary”.  Good enough for me 🙂DSC_0121Another skater dress, this time in a very cool (?) knit printed with wolves.  I had this fabric sitting in my cart on Etsy for weeks trying to talk myself out of buying it, but in the end the call of the wolf was too strong to resist.  I think it’s fun, and the fabric is the perfect weight and stretch for this dress.  DSC_0139

I won’t go to deep into the construction, since it is exactly the same as my previous version of this dress….it’s my own pattern, based loosely on tracing a shirt in my closet with sleeves borrowed from the Miz Mozelle pattern.  The skirt portion is just a gathered rectangle, with the only slightly tricky aspect being that it is gathered with clear elastic to keep the waist seam stretchy. DSC_0153It’s a winner of a pattern for me, and I hope to make a few more- maybe a long sleeved version.DSC_0133I took these pictures quickly as we were driving in between Halloween events- we went to an interactive screening of “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”, which was super fun.  The kids got to yell at the screen and dance around- it was kind of a kids’ version of Rocky Horror.  Followed by Halloween donuts and a fun dinner out, good times were had by all 🙂 .  Hope you had a fun and safe Halloween!DSC_0155

  • yay, the wolf dress! i love it, it’s so great on you! happy happy halloween, hope your two little mermaids were nice and sparkly tonight. 🙂

    • Kelly

Thanks Kristin! They were both very sparkly, and we had a lot of fun 🙂 But they both want to be Skeleton Fairy next year. 🙂

  • Great dress! Love the fabric. Could you provide the link to buy the fabric?

    • Kelly

Thanks Michelle! Unfortunately I bought the fabric last year, and I wasn’t able to find it anywhere now.

  • I love that print! I am seeing Lady Skater dresses everywhere, I think I need to try my hand at that soon!

    • Kelly

I think the style is easy to wear, I can see these dresses making it through winter with some layering 🙂

  • Cute as! I mean, scary as! Love this shape, and the print is so fun.

    • Kelly

      Thanks 🙂

  • Kelly – this skater and your last one are both awesome! I need to try and recreate this! And your jewelry is awesome too 🙂

    • Kelly

You could totally make this, you have skillzzzz 😉 I thought the necklace looked like moons, to add to the Halloween theme.

  • Suzanne Williams

Really love this dress and fabric!! Glad the little Mermaids had a fun Halloween 🙂

    • Kelly

Thanks Mom! They had a blast but were quite cranky the day after….the price you pay for fun I guess 🙂

  • perfect dress for halloween! somehow the wolf fabric looks less crazy now that it’s made into a dress… who knew?! and charlie brown is our after trick-or-treating tradition. it’s fun to see the kids reactions to it change from year to year as they grow up!

    • Kelly

Yay, not so crazy now….sometimes the picture in my head actually works in the real world, but not always 😉 My girls hadn’t seen the movie before, but they loved it! Although they were a little scared when Snoopy’s plane was being shot at. And then I had to explain guns, and bullets…

  • Love it! Was going to ask for a link to the fabric as well, too bad.

    • Kelly

Thanks! Yeah, kind of an obscure fabric….I hunted all over the interwebs but couldn’t find it. I do have good luck searching Etsy for random prints though.

  • Very cute and I love the shoe and tights pairing! We are fans of the great pumpkin too!

  • Aw, I love this fabric, I think this pattern was a great choice to showcase it.

  • So cute! The dress pattern is perfect and so flattering.

That’s my kind of dressing up. I am so bah-humbug about Halloween!

  • A very fun print. Love this dress!

  • Love your dress. The print is awesome. Like how you’ve styled your outfit too.
