Hello! How’s summer treating you? It has been hot hot HOT here in Portland, which has left me wanting to sew all of the light and airy things! I’ve had this BurdaStyle skirt on my list since last summer, and I finally found the perfect fabric for it…For the pattern sample they used Liberty lawn- and I was going to do that too but you need 3 yards and boy, that is an expensive skirt. SO instead I used this awesome tie dye rayon from Bolt. It is very soft and flowy and feels like wearing a cloud 🙂
This fabric is on the sheer side, so I made a short little lining in white rayon that goes down to the bottom of the first tier. I installed the invisible zipper just before heading to bed…and I would say it’s not my best. But definitely acceptable, I’ve gotten less picky about these things as time goes on! My necklace is from Native Clutter– No sponsorship or anything like that I just love everything Stephanie makes!!
There are only pattern pieces for the yoke, the tiers are just given in measurements. I was able to tear the strips for the tiers so that went really quick! The hem is forever long but machine stitched so overall this was a pretty easy make. Lots and lots of gathers but I cranked up the tension on my machine and let it gather itself so even that wasn’t too bad.My top is a Grainline Hemlock Tee (free pattern!). I left off the sleeves, and added 1/2″ to the neckline so I could just fold it over and topstitch. I have made several of these and they are my favorite tees. Just make sure to use a drapey fabric- this is a bamboo knit from fabric.com.
***Oh! And these sandals- I have been living in this summer! They are from my new favorite shoe company, Nisolo.
