Birthday Dresses!

Hello!  We’ll get back to lady sewing real soon, but first I had to share some birthday dresses with you.  Each year I make a special dress for my girls, and my little one just turned three- here is her dress:DSC_0003Fabric:  Tsuru by Rashida Coleman Hale for Cloud9

The pattern is the Geranium Dress from Made By Rae- you can’t go wrong with her patterns, they are all gems.  My girls are tiny, so based on the measurements in the pattern I made the width 12-18 months, and the length 2T.  The fit is perfect!  It is an easy pattern to follow, as with all of Rae’s designs the instructions are great and filled with pictures to illustrate each step.  I love the little flutter sleeves:

DSC_0125And last but not least, I made a dress for big sister too!DSC_0013This one is also from the Geranium pattern, made in a 2T width and 4T length…what can I say, they are little string beans.  The fabric is another from the Tsuru line, I love it!
DSC_0019OK!  I am working on some fun projects right now- a casual t-shirt dress (of which I want to make at least 5 versions!), a Staple dress, a Washi dress I cut out almost a year ago, and a Saltspring dress.  I figured I should crank out some summer projects while we still have some left, and I am saving the jeans and blazers for Fall…

The dresses are beautiful. The top one is my all time favorite fabric!

    • Kelly

Thank you! I love being able to use the border print as part of the design 🙂

  • Suzanne Williams

I love the Birthday dress for Miss V 🙂 So pretty!! And big sister’s dress is perfect! The fabric is wonderful! Love the buttons too!

    • Kelly

Thanks!! I had the buttons in my stash after loading up when buttons were 50% off at Joann’s 🙂

  • Oh my gosh! I miss the days of making itty bitty dresses for my girls! This gave me the warm and fuzzies.. thanks. Beautiful dresses!

    • Kelly

Thanks Margo! I feel like I should enjoy it now because when they get older they may not want me to make their dresses anymore!

  • These dresses are so darling! And I love the fabric choices. I’m sure your girls will (did?) look adorable in them!

    • Kelly

Thanks! We went bowling for her birthday and they were quite adorable…

  • These are the cutest!!!

    • Kelly

      Thank you!!

  • these are great! love all the fabrics you used.

    • Kelly

Thanks Lisa! I love this whole line, I have enough left of the fabric I used for the linings to make some little tops 🙂

  • They’re all so sweet! My mum used to sew for my sister and me a lot, I love seeing the photos. I’m wondering if I can get away with an adult dress in that last print, it’s so pretty.

Look forward to seeing your Saltspring, I have one in the works too.

  • Rae

    Love these!! So gorgeous!!

    • Kelly

      Thanks Rae!!

  • What beautiful dresses! Your fabric selections are so adorable, too. Can’t wait to see your Saltspring when it’s done!

    • Kelly

Thank you! I have motivation to get the Saltspring done because we are taking a trip to California at the end of the month and I really want to wear it on our trip! So hopefully soon 🙂

  • Oooh they’re all so pretty! Love seeing your little gal sewing, don’t apologize for showing it! 🙂

    • Kelly

Thanks Kristin 🙂 I need to do more, they love it when I sew for them!

  • These are so cute! The fabric you choose is just beautiful. If you wanted to pass them off as lady sewing, I would totally believe that an adult was wearing them. Like me. I would wear these in heartbeat.

    • Kelly

Haha, thanks! I totally had to fight the urge not to steal the crane fabric for myself…

  • I just LOVE that stork fabric, it’s gorgeous. You are not alone in the skinny kids world, my 3+ yr old wears 12-18month shorts, any bigger and they fall down!

    • Kelly

Oh, that’s always nice to hear- I worry about them sometimes!

  • Too cute! I love how you’ve left the sleeves ‘raw’. Makes me wish I had little girls to sew for.

  • I love, love, love these dresses! I have friend’s kids that I would love to make such pretty things for. Gorgeous 🙂

  • Lovely dresses you’ve made. I love to make dresses for my girls for special occasions, too. I would love to use some finer fabrics like these in the future.

    • Kelly

Thank you! Sometimes it takes a special occasion to get me sewing for them…these fabrics are great, and pretty reasonably priced for organics, I think.

  • all of these dresses are just gorgeous! i especially love what you did with the border print – that’s one of my favorites in the Tsuru line and you put it to such great use!

  • Oh my goodness, these are just tooo cute! ^_^ Looove!

    • Kelly

Thanks! I had great fabric to work with 😉
